Seafood in Hong Kong Photography

Seafood in Hong Kong

Seafood in Hong Kong is wonderful (although I can’t vouch for how unpolluted it is to eat). A place called Sai Kung is one of my favourites and is only a 20-30 minute drive from home. The seafood is still alive (although this doesn’t necessarily make it fresh!) and you get to choose it from huge tanks that sit outside each restaurant.

Most of the seafood restaurants are outdoors on round tables – some overlooking the sea. Lovely. Hong Kong can get really hot and humid so you can opt for a table inside in the air conditioning if you really want to – but sitting outside is so much better!

In a usual meal we usually have crab, shrimp, steamed soy fish, scallops, another kind of seafood that I don’t know the English for (!) and vegetables either sauteed with garlic or steamed. Fruit for dessert. Yummy!

Another plus is that I can take Harry, my dog, with me, so long as I sit outside.

After dinner you can take a walk down the front and wander along the pier or check out the little sampan boats selling seafood, usually caught that day. Before dinner you could even take one of these little sampan boats for a mini fishing trip (not that catching anything is guaranteed *lol*).

I was there a while ago and took a few photos (quickly!) that I decided to make into a PhotoBoard! While I don’t get out there as often as I would like, it’s great when I find the time!

Enjoy~

PhotoBoard Template 2 *Freebie* {CU} {S4H}

PhotoBoard 3

On Monday I made a post about Guernsey and the stunning coastlines that surround this amazing channel island. I used a PhotoBoard and decided to make it into a template incase you want to use it on your own web or in a scrapbook layout.

It is 12×12 inches in size and is a Photoshop file with clipping masks and an optional shadow layer to make it super fast to use.

I’ve also included WEB (72dpi) and PRINT (300dpi) .png versions (holes for photos) with and without shadows.

Guernsey Photo Board

Guernsey, C.I. has got to be one of the most gorgeous places on earth! Who needs Photoshop when you have a subject like Guernsey (having said that, even though I didn’t Photoshop the photos below, the fact that the horizon isn’t straight in some of them is still driving me nuts!).

Guernsey Photo Board

I am from Guernsey, originally, and by that I mean that my mother was born there. My life has been in Hong Kong, although I did study in Guernsey for a few months when I was in high school.

As Guernsey is a tiny island, it is surrounded by stunning beaches that are incredible in the summer. My favourite is to go and grab a vanilla cone and enjoy the waves and the wind.

I also adore the Cobo Tearooms that are near a lovely beach. They do the best crab sandwiches and Guernsey beanjar. Fabulous!

Anyway, I decided to make a photo board of a few of my favourite photos of the coast of Guernsey – none has been photoshopped – those are the real blues and greens!

Enjoy!

Twilight – Gotta Love It!

Twilight

I love twilight – absolutely love it!

Here’s a photo I took at Disneyland in Hong Kong a few weeks ago. It’s not the best photo (I’ll probably do some photo-shoppping when I have time), but I love the lights, the fire, the reflections in the water and the subject – Tarzan’s Hideaway. I wasn’t able to go over to the Hideaway on this day, but I did a few weeks later and tried to get a few shots from the top of the hideaway – they didn’t turn out great. I still like this one best!

I find that when I am photographing at twilight I get a little stressed as I know there’s a time limit – you can’t stay there for 3 hours working all the angles and trying out different things: you’ve got less than an hour and you have to make every minute count. I’m always late, so this is really difficult for me *lol*.

I’ve still got to practise lots before I finally figure out twilight – but I love trying!

Hong Kong Photography

Hong Kong Rubbish Cart

Hong Kong is a fantastic place to take photos – just so happens I live here and never have the time to take any of those fantastic photos! I do keep my camera with me and a few months ago I was sitting in traffic and saw this photo out the window. I grabbed my camera and quickly took this photo.

I know it isn’t perfect, but it really reminds me of Hong Kong when I was a kid (I’m British but grew up in Hong Kong). The old rubbish cart with the basket, the telephone numbers posted up haphazardly, the railings, the mirrors inbetween the stores. Lots of memories!

I did do some colour adjustment to give it more of a 70s feel and I like the way it came out – not forgetting it was out the window of my car, while in traffic, at dusk!

Enjoy!

Web Photo Inspiration Board 1 *Freebie* {CU}

Photo Inspiration Board 1

I made a “Photo Inspiration Board”. So, you may be wondering what on earth is a “Photo Inspiration Board” – well, it’s a template for you to pop your favourite photos into and display on your blog quickly and easily.

I wanted to post a few of my favourite black and white photos, but didn’t want to post them all one-by-one – I generally think this looks messy. I remember seeing the idea of a collage of photos on other blogs and decided to give it a go. After I finished it, I thought it might be fun to offer it up as a freebie incase anyone else wants to do the same on their blog.

So, here it is! My first “Photo Inspiration Board” ready to be used. How? Keep reading!

I have included the Photoshop layered file with clipping masks and an optional shadow. If you use the shadow (optional) it will be 600px X 893px in size. As it’s for a blog, it’s 72dpi, which is the correct resolution for the web. If you would like to use it on your scrapbooking layouts, I would suggest changing the resolution to 300dpi.

If you don’t have Photoshop, don’t worry! I’ve also included two .png files – one with a shadow and one without. These are not as quick as using clipping masks, but they’ll get the job done: simply slot your photos behind each photo opening in the template.

Ok, enough talking – let’s get onto the template!

Black and White Photo Inspiration Board

Black and White Inspiration

I love black and white photography – not the kind where you hit a desaturate button, but the kind where the main colours are predominantly black and white. I decided to make a photography inspiration board of a few of my favourite photos.

Where were they taken? From top to bottom, left to right:

  • Disneyland, Hong Kong – love the fog!
  • Orchard Road, Singapore – I love the tiny hint of orange on the bird’s beak
  • Harry – my whippet!
  • Phuket, Thailand – I think this was the beach at the Sheraton! Possibly the Phuket Arcadia Hotel.
  • Whitehead Beach, Hong Kong – Where I take Harry for a good run when the tide is down.

Enjoy!

Starbuck the Bengal Cat

Starbuck the Bengal Cat

This is my beloved Starbuck. He’s a purebred bengal cat from Australia and I love him! As soon as I saw his picture I knew he was mine and, even though I looked at a gazillion other kittens, I knew He was mine the minute I saw him. I just couldn’t believe that the first kitten I had seen would be the one. You should never choose the first one, right? But I did and I cannot believe how wonderful and perfect he truly is!

I’m not big into pet photography, but I keep trying. I love this photo of Starbuck, even though the depth of field is a little too shallow, I still love it. His eyes – that intent stare at whatever it was he was looking at is divine. He’s divine!

OK, enough about my cat – btw, I have 3 – a mixture of rescue and purebred (not forgetting my 1 year old whipptet called Harry – that’s another story!).

Ok, that’s it from me.

Goodnight!

iPhone Camera

Ok, so one of the main reasons why I held out getting an iPhone so long was because of the camera – it wasn’t very good compared to my 8.3 megapixel cybershot camera with flash, autofocus, zoom etc. on my Sony Erricson. Sweet phone camera. Anyway, I gave in and got the iPhone and, while the camera is not stella, I’m having fun with it and am slightly impressed with what it can produce!

I was driving home from somewhere a few days ago (possibly church? or lunch with my mum and sister?) and saw a beautiful sky lit with a sinking sun. I whipped out my iPhone and snapped a quick photo. I didn’t even try to hold the camera still. Below is what I caught. Not bad for a wobbly hand, car travelling fast on a highway, with not great light. There’s hope!

iPhone Photo

And on a side note – I live right next to the building below the sun. I get a great view of the Hong Kong skyline!
